We often get asked what EMS is?  EMS stands for Electro Muscular Stimulation.  It’s a scientifically proven training method that stimulates all the major muscle groups using electrical pulses.  Sessions are 20 minutes long and are the equivalent of a 90 minute workout in the gym.

 

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

 

EMS starts off as a gentle tingling or tapping sensation.  As the levels on the machine are turned up, this sensation becomes stronger forcing your muscles to contract.  Its likely that at the end of a 20 minute EMS session, your body will feel tired.  You also may experience some muscle soreness in the days following your session.

 

WHO IS IT FOR?

 

EMS is suitable for most people (with the exception of a couple of health conditions), regardless of age.  It also does not matter if you are very strong and fit and exercise frequently, or you do not exercise at all.  EMS sessions are individually targeted which means they are effective regardless of age or ability.

EMS is not recommended for anyone who is pregnant or has a pacemaker or other electrical implant.  Its also only suitable for people aged over 16.  EMS is not recommended for anyone with acute illnesses or inflammatory diseases.

 

DOES IT HELP WITH INJURIES?

 

EMS is low impact and puts minimal strain on your joints.  It is therefore an excellent choice if you are injured or recovering from an injury.  Exercises can be adapted to work around an injury whilst at the same time strengthening your muscles.  EMS training is particularly beneficial for people with lower back pain, strengthening muscles without putting stress on the joints

 

IS IT SAFE?

 

The EMS machines are totally safe.  They are manufactured by leading industry experts, Miha Bodytec, a German company.  They have undergone rigorous safety checks and meet EU guidelines for medical devices.

 

WHAT DO I WEAR?

 

We will give you special clothing to wear underneath the EMS equipment.  You can do the session, barefoot, in socks or trainers.  EMS is most effective when you do not wear underwear.  However if you feel more comfortable wearing underwear that is fine but bras must not be underwired.  EMS equipment is sprayed down with water before your session so underwear will get wet.

 

CAN I LOSE WEIGHT?

 

Weight loss is achieved by a combination of exercise and nutrition.  These areas must be worked on together if you want to lose weight.  EMS training will help you lose weight but like all forms of exercise this will be limited on its own.  Nutrition must be addressed alongside exercise.

 

HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS?

 

Research indicates you should start to notice results within about 4 weeks if you commit to training on a regular basis.  However some people may feel the benefit after just one session.  The benefits include improved posture and muscle strength, toning, reduced risk of injury and improved sports performance.

 

 

DO I HAVE TO BE SUPERFIT?

 

No!  The beauty of EMS is that anyone can do it and you don’t have to be super strong or fit.  If you are new to exercise, don’t like gyms or have had a long period of inactivity EMS could be a great choice for you.  At Fasttrack sessions are 1-1 or 1-2 and will be tailored to your needs.

 

CAN I USE EMS TO TRAIN FOR SPORTS EVENTS?

 

Absolutely!  This is a brilliant addition to your training regime allowing you to target deep muscles effectively within a 20 minute session.

 

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

 

We recommend one or two 20 minute sessions each week to achieve the best results.  Due to the intensity of training we do not recommend more than 2 sessions a week.
